Digital Hearing Aids Soon through Local NHS12.00.00am GMT Wed 26th Feb 2003 The campaign to provide all those with hearing difficulties with digital hearing aids on the NHS is bearing fruit with a firm commitment by ministers that within two years all hospitals and GPs will be able to offer this service. Vincent Cable, who has campaigned with the Royal National Institute for Deaf People, to 'roll out' this programme, and has questioned Health Ministers in parliament about the slow progress said: "many local people have been very frustrated to discover that local hospitals like the West Middlesex could not offer a service available to people with hearing difficulties elsewhere in the country." "They have, until now, had the choice of inadequate and old fashioned NHS kits or paying over £1000 for digital aids." "Now there is a firm deadline for the NHS to be able to offer this service to everyone" Contact RNID 7296 8000 or Vincent Cable
