DVLA Hotline Launched12.00.23pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 21st May 2003 The DVLA have launched a new scheme this week to combat vehicle excise duty evasion through a telephone hotline. The hotline will be a free phone number for members of the public to report apparently unlicensed vehicles to the DVLA. The scheme will initially be London based though will eventually be extended to the rest of the country. Jenny Tonge MP: "I would like to welcome this new scheme It is an important step forward to ensuring greater road safety as many people who don't bother to pay road tax are often committing other motoring offences. The DVLA are already working closely with the police on this campaign, and this new hotline will give the public a chance to make a really positive contribution to improving road safety in London." The telephone number of the new hotline is 08000 325 202
