Needlework and Embroidery Courses in Hampton Saved

An appeal to the Adult College has led to the popular needlework and embroidery courses in Hampton being saved.

Classes at the Methodist Church, which were to close, will now continue from September on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Vincent Cable, MP, who has supported Hampton residents in their bid to save the classes, made a last ditch appeal to the college to cancel the removal vans. He said that he was "delighted that the College had listened and responded to local opinion."

"There was a strong feeling in Hampton that yet another popular local activity was being closed. Because of poor public transport many of the regular attendees of the classes, especially the more elderly, would not be able to transfer to Twickenham."

"This is a victory for common sense. But there will be a lot of hard work ahead to build up the classes, especially a new class for children, and make them secure in the long term".
