Latest figures obtained by Vincent Cable MP show that this year there will be around 3,000 vehicles abandoned in the borough of which the council will remove only 30% (900) - these figures exclude the 650 surrendered to the council.

Vincent Cable MP has been pursuing the complaints about the case of a local resident who went to live in Hampshire leaving behind a Porsche car and a boat on a trailer on the road way in an area in Twickenham where there is a serious parking problem (Andover Road and Mereway).

Vincent Cable MP said that the council "has undoubtedly improved its system of dealing with abandoned cars and now has a computer link with DVLA in Swansea which is a welcome change. But it is still having to disregard 70% of cars which are blocking highways".

"The government also has to take responsibility for this problem as the new regulations on recycling impose burdens and disincentives on the last owner".
