Damaging Admission on Hampton Wick Bus Lane10.07.16am GMT Wed 19th Nov 2003 At tonight's Council meeting in a response to a question from Chris Pocock, a local resident, the Tory Cabinet Member, Councillor Mark Kreling made the damaging admission that the Tories had always intended to remove this bus lane if they came to power. Lib Dem Opposition spokesman Councillor Martin Elengorn said: "This makes a mockery of the review and public consultation process. Transport for London, the bus operators, the bus users' Committee, the Teddington Society and cyclists all wanted the lane kept while a grand total of 15 residents favoured its removal at a cost of £25,000. It now turns out to be a matter of political dogma not rational consideration. Given this fresh information the Lib Dems tried to get the matter referred back but were outvoted."
