Tonge On Tiffin Rebuilding Costs

Dr Jenny Tonge, Liberal Democrat MP for Richmond Park has written to Schools Minister Stephen Twigg to ask for extra capital funding for Tiffin Girls' School, which was devastated by fire before Christmas.

Noting that the Minister had given similar assurances to Colin Burgon, MP for Elmet, for a school in his constituency, Dr Tonge said: "The school, of course, is covered by insurance but this will only pay for a replacement for the old building, which had interconnecting rooms and was sub-standard by today's standards."Will you please look favourably upon requests for extra capital funding for this school when the rebuilding takes place, so that they can improve on their already excellent record?"
