Minibuses Could Be The Key To Safe Rides Home

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 9th Jun 2003

Local campaigner Dee Doocey is working with Lib Dems at the London Assembly on a plan to solve the old problem of getting home safely after a night out.

The idea is to provide shared minibuses so that people travelling home from theatres, cinemas, clubs and so on can share a ride home directly to their front door.

"Transport for London say that the scheme could be licenses through the Public Cab Office," reports Dee Doocey. "This minibus scheme would be safer and cheaper than getting into a minicab alone, and overcome the problem of using a night bus with the risk of perhaps ten to fifteen minutes walk through lonely streets."
