Kramer Backs Campaign For Lavinia's Law

11.35.30am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 5th Apr 2004

Susan Kramer, Lib Dem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Richmond Park, has welcomed the campaign for Lavinia's Law for legislation to ban the giant rockets, known as Class three fireworks, from use except in professional displays.

Susan Kramer PPC, "The suffering of Lavinia Dale who lost an eye to such a firework set off from 6 gardens away was devastating. Kingston Council has backed the campaign for a change in legislation, and Richmond Council must do the same."

"Kingston is also very wisely calling for fireworks to be banned after 11pm except on New Year's Eve, coupled with the introduction of a maximum noise level of 95db. This is a sensible compromise, which allows for fun and celebration but means that residents can get some sleep. Much as I love to watch fireworks, I can see why the many festivals we now have, with some people letting off firecrackers into the small hours, can drive people batty. Most pet owners will know the misery the bangs cause to pets, especially to dogs."

"Jenny Tonge MP is campaigning for the changes in Parliament. Kingston Council is lending strong support. Lets have some backing for Lavinia's Law from Richmond Council too."
