Reaction to Funfair on Twickenham Green

12.37.27pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 8th Sep 2004

Some residents have objected strenuously to the decision by the council to allow Twickenham Green to be used for the establishment of a fun fair a few hours after the memorial service on the Green for Amelie Delagrange.

MP Vincent Cable said: "Having been to the very moving service on Sunday afternoon I can understand why some residents are upset and feel a lack of respect is being shown".

"I can see that there has to be closure and the local community has to move on. But the decision to move on seems, in this case, to have been decided on the basis of commercial consideration or, simply, lack of thought".
