Clean Sweep: Vince Cable re-elected for Twickenham, Susan Kramer elected for Richmond Park and & David Trigg elected for Twickenham Riverside

The Liberal Democrats have thanked the voters of Richmond Borough for returning Vincent Cable and Susan Kramer to Parliament to represent them in Twickenham and Richmond Park respectively. Vincent Cable received over 51% of the votes cast in Twickenham, and Susan Kramer had a majority of over 3,700 having taken over the Richmond Park seat from outgoing MP Jenny Tonge.

In the Twickenham Riverside by-election to Richmond Council held on the same day, David Trigg won the seat with an almost 600 majority. The full result was:

  • Green 435

  • Labour 548

  • Conservative 1,513

  • David Trigg (Liberal Democrats) 2,111 Elected

The political make-up of the council is now:

  • Conservatives 34

  • Liberal Democrats 19

  • Independent 1

The Liberal Democrats have won every one of the 5 by-elections to Richmond upon Thames Borough Council since May 2002.
