Baroness Tonge of Kew, better known to local residents as Dr Jenny Tonge, formerly the MP for Richmond Park, was formally introduced to the House of Lords on Monday June 27 2005.

Watched from the gallery by her husband Dr Keith Tonge, grandsons George and Mickey Wherry and other family members, Baroness Tonge entered the chamber flanked by her sponsors Baroness Williams of Crosby and Baroness Hamwee. She took the Oath and shook hands with the Lord Chancellor, to the traditional shouts of "Hear Hear," from her fellow Peers.

Baroness Tonge will now travel to Edinburgh to attend a meeting of International Parliamentarians gathering for the G8 Summit. She will then join the anti-poverty march which hopes to surround the whole of Edinburgh with a white band of demonstrators.
