Youngsters have their say on crime

8.24.15pm GMT Fri 23rd Feb 2007

Young people from two boroughs will have their say on crime at the 13th annual Youth Crime Conference to be held in Richmond upon Thames.

Secondary school pupils from Richmond and Hounslow will come together at the forum, to be held at Twickenham Rugby Stadium on Wednesday February 28. The theme for the day will be "Street Wise - Street Safe" and matters under discussion will include street crime, stop and search and graffiti. Facilitators for the day will include police officers and representatives from the youth service in both boroughs. The conference is being organised by a host of agencies, including the Richmond Community Police Partnership; the local Community Safety Partnership; and Hounslow's Community and Police Consultative Group. Secondary schools from the two boroughs have each been invited to send 10 pupils.

Richmond's Cabinet Member for Communities, Sir David Williams, said: "The first youth conference was held in 1994 and they have proved a great success as a forum for young people to air their views on diverse crime issues. The views of young people really count and this is a tremendous opportunity for them to have their say on crime and how to combat it in partnership with the police and local communities."
