New fund to boost the local economy

12.00.00am GMT Wed 21st Mar 2007

Calling all businesses. There is still time to tell Richmond Council your views on how it can boost business growth in the borough.

The Council has established an Economic Development Fund and is asking businesses for their views on how it can best be used to aid business growth. Views were sought via a questionnaire that accompanied the business rate demand. Businesses were asked to submit ideas on a special postcard by Monday 2 April. The Council's Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Resources, Cllr Stephen Knight, said:

"The Council is keen to promote local businesses and to help our local economy to grow. A healthy local economy is essential both to supporting vibrant town centres and for providing a good supply of local employment for our residents. And there are many ways in which the Council could help but, first, we are keen to hear the views of businesses before choosing any particular schemes. Ideas received so far include financial help for employers wishing to improve their green credentials through an energy and environmental overhaul, grants to new businesses and customised training schemes. Help towards the travel costs of new employees has also been suggested. However, if there are other ideas you feel would bring sustained growth to the local economy please let us know."
