Twickenham Riverside: Call to make your views known

6.37.53pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 13th Sep 2007

A chance to have your say about the latest proposals to regenerate Twickenham Riverside will top the agenda at a meeting this month.

The development proposals will take centre stage at a meeting of Richmond Council's Finance and Strategy Overview and Scrutiny Committee on Thursday September 27. The meeting, which will include a presentation by the design consultants, Urban Practitioners, will be held in the Council Chamber at York House, starting 7pm.

Committee Chairman, Cllr Geoffrey Samuel, said: "This is a tremendously important meeting as members of the public have the chance to learn about the latest proposals to regenerate the riverside and contribute to the debate on this key development. Representatives from the design consultants and Council officers will be there to explain progress to date. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn first-hand exactly what is proposed - and air your views. We greatly value the opinions of local residents and invite them to have their say."

The meeting will allow people to comment on the proposals and be followed by consultation events in the autumn and winter at which scheme options will be discussed and refined. People wishing to speak at the meeting need to register with Alastair Round on 0208 891 7813 by 2pm on Wednesday September 26. In view of the public interest in this topic, a maximum of nine people, instead of the usual six, will be chosen to speak at the meeting. The Chairman will select the nine speakers from those who have registered on the basis of obtaining a range of views.

A key part of this scheme is The Richmond Environment Trust's Twickenham River Centre - Project: a proposal is for a community building open to people of all ages and all backgrounds, which is physically and inherently linked to the river environment. It will be managed by a company limited by guarantee, with a board representative of the local organisations specialising in environmental work and education, river-based businesses and charities promoting recreational use of the river, and an established commercial café.
