Green Bites invite residents to get their teeth into energy-saving

12.30.00pm GMT Mon 10th Mar 2008

• RESIDENTS are invited to learn more about climate change and energy-saving at home at a series of free, green workshops, launched in the borough's libraries on Saturday 15 March.

Called 'Green Bites' and delivered by Richmond Council's Sustainability Unit, the interactive, hour-long sessions will show people how to calculate their carbon footprint and what they can do to reduce it. They will include information on fuel grants and money-saving schemes. Each participant will receive a free 'Green Starter Kit' containing an energy-saving light bulb, a power down plug, a water-saving Hippo device for cisterns and recycling advice. Hampton Hill Library will host the first workshop which starts at 11am. Seven more are planned throughout the year.

Cllr Martin Elengorn, Cabinet Member for Environment on Richmond Council, said: "Climate change affects us all and everyone must do his or her bit if we are to slow global warming. These events show people what simple steps they can take at home to reduce their own carbon footprint, from installing energy-saving light bulbs to insulating their loft or walls. Admission is free and everyone receives a free starter kit which will help the environment and start saving you money immediately."
