Carers Conference aiming to boost services

10.07.56am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 23rd May 2008

• CARERS can have their say on the way care services are developed in the borough at a special conference being held in York House, Twickenham on Tuesday, 10 June.

The conference is being run by Richmond Carers Centre, Richmond Crossroads and other partners, including Richmond Council, to support Carers Week, 9-13 June, a nationwide initiative designed to raise awareness of unpaid carers and the support services available to them. This year's theme "Carers can't afford to be ill" focuses on the health and well being of carers and the need for better support services. The conference, which runs from 10am-2pm, will feature a series of presentations, as well as workshops and discussion groups. It will conclude with lunch and live jazz music.

Cllr Denise Carr, Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Health and Housing, said: "This is a very important event. It is an excellent opportunity for carers to air their views, exchange ideas, question care professionals and find out what services they are entitled too. Past conferences have really helped to shape the local care agenda so I urge those interested to attend."
